Are you the adventurous type? Want to make a healthy treat for your dog? The following recipe is sure to please.
For a healthy biscuit the ingredients needed are: 3 cups of wheat flour, one half of apple, one and ¾ cup fennel bulb, 5/8 cup of low-fat yogurt, one tablespoon honey, one teaspoon sesame seeds, approximately one cup water.
- Preheat oven to 320 degrees F and cover a baking pan with parchment paper.
- Clean the fennel, cut into small pieces and boil in water until tender (approx. 10 minutes). Let fennel and broth cool.
- Cut the apple in half with peel on and puree with cooled fennel and broth.
- Using a hand or stand mixer, mix the yogurt, honey, and sesame with remaining ingredients to form a smooth dough. If needed, add some flour so the dough does not stick.
- Roll the dough out to approximately 1/8 inch thick on a floured surface and cut into any shape cookie cutter you choose.
- Place the biscuits onto the baking pan and bake at 320 degrees F for approximately 20 minutes.
The biscuit is only 2.4% fat. Fed in moderation, it is a true light biscuit. To enhance the flavor for your pet, add ¼ pound pureed turkey breast.
