The most recent emergency grant was issued in the amount of five hundred dollars towards the Pet Adoption League. They became a caretaker of a six-month-old puppy named Petals.
Petals had the misfortune of being stricken with Parvo. Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus mainly affecting dogs. CPV is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their feces. Vaccines can prevent this infection, but the mortality rate can reach 91% in untreated cases. Treatment involves veterinary hospitalization care. The administration of twenty-four-hour liquids and medication are provided to control nausea, pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Most cases require at least a week of constant treatment. During the recovery of Petals, four bags of blankets, towels and other needed items were donated from Mon Valley Paws.
As of this writing, Petals has responded extremely well to treatment. She is a fighter and so deserving of a speedy recovery. Finding her a forever home with certain restrictions will be her goal…. Update on Petals…. A forever home has been granted and she will be adopted to a deserving family! Congratulations to all involved with her care and adoption.
