PET SPOTLIGHT OF DECEMBER

Becky Miller and Toby

Tim Sedok and Willie

Becky had a Corgi mix dog named Sam. When he was about 12 years of age, he suffered a stroke. Due to Becky’s cancer diagnoses, she was unable to care for him and felt the humane option was to euthanize Sam. As much as she missed Sam, the thought of getting another pet was weighing on her mind. She spoke to her physician about the situation, and he encouraged her stating it could be beneficial. Two weeks later, she went to Fayette Friends of Animals in Uniontown and told them she was looking for a small, non-shedding dog and age didn’t matter. She felt a small, non-shedding dog would be easier to re-home in the event her diagnosis got worse. There was a dog fitting her requests. He is a Yorkie Terrier mix and approximately eight years old. She brought him home on July 19, of 2018. His name is Toby. Toby and Becky created a bond, and he helped in her recovery. They have been together for five years. He sits on her lap and enjoys looking out the window. The downfall of their bonding is Toby has become very possessive of Becky. Toby is extremely protective with anyone or thing that comes between them. The upside is if he doesn’t see her or she is elsewhere, he is a very mannerly and a pleasant dog. Enter the boyfriend Tim. He is no exception. Toby has gone so far as to bite and draw blood from Tim. Tim does not give up and tolerates Toby and takes him on walks. Once away from Becky, Toby enjoys the walk with Tim.
Tim now wants a dog for himself and after 2 years he also went to Fayette Friends of Animals. There was a Yorkie mix named Willie. Tim wanted Willie, but Willie needed to be neutered and have surgery for some lumps on his body. Tim went every day to Uniontown to visit and bond with Willie. After Willie was cleared for release, Tim brought him home and nursed him back to health. Willie and Toby are buddies and spend many hours together. Willie has improved Tim’s anxiety issues and Becky is grateful for the love from Toby keeping her health on the positive trend. Moral of this story is man’s or woman’s best friend is a dog.
