Southwest PA Pugs with Special Needs

They were founded in 2008 and are a non-profit organization who rescue older, disabled and special needs pug/pug mix running solely on donations. Most of the rescues are considered “unadoptable “having chronic issues making it difficult to find permanent homes or having limited time left. All the dogs are fully vetted, which includes vaccinations and spaying/neutering. The rescue maintains a thorough adoption process to ensure every dog is placed in a loving home. Those not adoptable are left in the care of Lisa Ward, giving them the loving home they deserve.

In addition to the monetary award given to the rescue, Lisa added a couple of memorable stories to tell. In the spring of 2023, one of the pugs, Miss Bea, was having bathroom issues and the veterinarian determined she had a tear in her intestines requiring immediate surgery. The group quickly tried to raise the needed $1800.00. Lisa is appreciative of the $500.00 donation from MVPaws. The monies were raised, and Miss Bea fully recovered and is doing well today.

Another issue involved a pipe breakage in her home, resulting in water pouring through the ceiling which destroyed her laptop. Purchasing another was out of her price range but thankful once again to MVPaws, one was donated, and she was able to continue posting her rescue efforts on-line. Southwestern PA Pugs gratefully wishes to thank Mon Valley Paws for their support giving them the boost needed to help them sustain their shelter/rescue. Sometimes a small rescue is often overlooked but she couldn’t thank our organization enough. With the generous donation from Paws, they were able to pay off their debts and have the confidence to continue to save more senior and special needs pugs.

Three rescues are available currently. They are Symie, Dexter and Miss Bea. Please reach out to them if anyone is interested.
