As They Come Animal Rescue

As They Come Animal Rescue is a foster-driven organization based in West Newton. We predominantly work with cats, but also take in birds, snakes and a variety of small mammals when the need arises. We will occasionally have a dog available for adoption, but we are strictly limited by a lack of dog fosters. We strive to provide high quality care to the animals we take in and we will not compromise this principle.

We do have a central location where many of the cats are housed at our founder Katie Allison’s home in West Newton, but we rely heavily on fosters who are willing to take animals into their homes in order to give them extra TLC and socialization. ATCAR provides our fosters with all the food and supplies that they require. Of course, this includes any veterinary care needed.

There are many support activities that go on behind the scenes as well. We need volunteers to help maintain the cleanliness and comfort of the cats housed in the main location. We also participate in many community gatherings and adoption events. Volunteers are needed to assist with those too.  Another very important volunteer function is social media administration. Nowadays, social media presence is crucial in reaching potential adopters, volunteers and donors. We have a wonderful team that does great work in all of these areas, but we are always looking to add to it.

Another service that we provide to the community is TNR (Trap, Neuter, and Return) for stray cats. To the best of our ability, we assist with capturing, vetting and returning these cats to their colonies to live longer, healthier lives. With the overwhelming number of stray cats in the area, we consider this a very important activity to help stem the tide of outdoor cats reproducing. We also provide education to the public about what TNR is and why it is a good thing in which they can participate. Thanks to Mon Valley Paws, we have been able to fix more cats and help their caretakers to improve their quality of life through generous donations of wet and dry cat food. Mon Valley Paws’ donation of over $5000 last year allowed us to provide lifesaving spay and neuter surgery to many more cats than we would have been able to help on our own.

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we are dependent upon community support in order to function, and we are so very grateful to Mon Valley Paws for their generous donations and the work they do in general. Together we can save more lives.
