OFFICERS SALZMAN AND K9 SAMMI

K9 Deputy Kristie Salzman is a lifelong resident of Washington County.  A 30 year Law Enforcement Officer, the last 9 handling two K9 partners for the Washington Co Sheriff’s Office.  She was raised in Carroll Twp where she resides with her daughter.

Always wanting a career in Law Enforcement, she graduated her Act 120 Certification at the age of 20 and began work immediately.  She has worked in various capacities and for different agencies but has found her calling at the Sheriff’s Office in 2011 and began the K9 program in 2015.

K9 Sammi is a 5 yr old Malinois, imported from overseas.   She began her journey at Tri State K9 in Warren, OH under trainer Dave Blosser.

She and Salzman partnered up in 2021 and completed their Detection certification that summer and Patrol Training and Certification the following year.  Both, Retired K9 Obie and current K9 partner Sammi are Explosive Detection Dogs with Sammi having a Patrol certification as well.

Although a complete opposite of her predecessor, Obie (Labrador Retriever), she has not only changed the dynamics of daily tasks and assignments, but she has also won the hearts of those she serves with her playful antics. And yes, K9 Obie retired and lives with Salzman and her family!

As a final note, update on K9 Mitch is he is back to work and healing well!!
