Pet Spotlight of the Month – February

Guru and Mara Weiser

“In December I came across a post about a 2 year old German Shepherd mix named Guru, and I knew he had to be mine. Guru was scheduled to be euthanized in just 4 days when I saw the post. I had to get this process going ASAP to save this perfect boy.

At the time, Guru was living in Texas, waiting for a forever home. A rescue group was working hard to rehome him, and the journey to his new life took him all the way across the country to be with me in PA. Guru and all his shelter dog friends were driven from Texas to the East Coast. Numerous stops were made along the way to leave the shelter dogs to their forever homes.

When it was finally my turn to meet him, it was a moment I’ll never forget. As I picked him up, it was the first time Guru had ever seen snow. Watching him experience it for the first time was so emotional. He ran around in pure joy, his happiness absolutely contagious.

The journey didn’t stop there, though. Over time, I learned more about the quirky little things that made Guru, well, Guru. He’s a huge fan of pup cups, loves peanut butter stuffed in his Kong, and has a blast playing outside in the snow. But perhaps my favorite thing about him is his habit of chasing his own tail—it’s always a hilarious moment when he finally catches it and realizes what it is!

Living on my own, I wasn’t sure how having a dog would change things, but Guru has been the perfect companion. He’s not just a pet; he’s family. He follows me everywhere like a shadow, always close by, and he especially loves to watch me get ready in the mornings. There’s something so special about knowing he’s there, admiring me as I go about my day.

And now, as of January 31st, 2025, I’m proud to say that Guru is officially a part of my family, furever. It’s amazing how a dog you never planned on finding can become exactly what you needed. He’s more than just a foster fail—he’s my best friend, my shadow, and the perfect addition to my life.”
