Mon Valley Paws offers emergency treatment grants based on need to the following groups:
- Seniors defined anyone over the age of 55 who reside in the Mon Valley
- Individuals under the age of 55 who reside in the Mon Valley
- Shelters and Rescues located in the Mon Valley which receive no government funding
These grants which are paid directly to the veterinarian provider have a limit of $500 and cover the following conditions:
- Accident by auto vehicle or physical harm by an individual or other animal.
- Emergency treatment due to accidental poisoning.
- Emergency treatment due to ingestion of a foreign substance or object.
- Emergency treatment for Lyme disease
- Emergency treatment for excessive vomiting or refusal to eat.
- Emergency evaluation and treatment of a stray or abandoned dog or cat.
The grant can’t be used for ongoing medical needs such as medicine, chemotherapy, other
reoccurring treatments or used to cover Euthanasia expenses.
Seniors can also apply for a grant to cover the treatments listed below:
- Annual exam to include vaccinations and routine testing ($200 Maximum)
- Dental procedures to include cleaning and extractions ($400 Maximum)
These grants can be paid to any veterinarian provider, but priority is given to clients of vets who are sponsors or partners of Mon Valley Paws.

Note since most vets require payment at the time of treatment, grant applications should be entered ASAP, Senior annual exam and dental grants should be made at least 48 hours prior to the appointment. For emergency treatment the application should be entered as soon as the appointment is made or you check in at the emergency vet (this will increase the odds of the application being seen and processed in time).
