Pet Spotlight of the Month – May

Roxie and Dan Harkins

“I would like to introduce everyone to my new dog, Roxie. I had to have Molly, my last dog, put down on Christmas Eve, 2024, and had her cross the Rainbow Bridge before her time. Needless to say, her death left a big hole in my life.  I knew I would eventually get a new canine companion but needed to first go through the grieving process. Molly was a French/English Bulldog mix and wanted to find a dog of the same mix. I started casually searching with no luck. When searching breeders on the internet, my eyes locked on a Beabull (beagle/bulldog mix). It was almost like Molly was speaking in my ear, “Take this one! Take her!” Upon calling the breeder I found her name was Roxie and she was one of a four pup litter. I picked her up from the breeder in Ohio that weekend. She is now seven months old and my new housemate. She is very intelligent but stubborn as a mule and strong as an ox. She gets along with everyone and makes friends with both people and animals. We go to the dog park at Cedar Creek every day and we are surprised to find a lady with a Beabull. Her dog was Roxie’s four year old sister as they both come from the same breeder and the same mom and pop!!

Roxie is a very pleasant, playful young lady and never barks except when the deer visit in the morning every day at 3:00AM. Then the Beagle in her comes out and she howls like crazy. She took to crate training and potty training very well and now sleeps with me every night. We still haven’t completely decided/determined who is in charge, but she is still a pup and will eventually figure it out. I hope. I lost Molly on Christmas Eve, but she gave me the best present ever when she told me to take Roxie as her Christmas gift to me.”
