Blue and Evie Yatchyshyn
“My older son, who lives in Anchorage , Alaska with his family, had a silver Lab that competed in Dock Diving. Every year, for the last18 years they would come down to Libertyville Illinois to compete. The town holds a “Dog Days of Summer” festivale in the park. The entire weekend is dedicated to dogs. Anything you could possible think of for dogs was available there, including many shelters and their adoptable, adorable pets.
Foe several years Gene and I would drive out to join in the festivities. Not only taking the opportubity to cheer on Ruger and friends in the competion but spending time with the family. Our time was spent walking in the park, stopping in the different shelters, and talking with the volunteers.
The summer after Gene passed, my friend and I flew out to enjoy the weekend. During one of our walks through the park we came upon the cutest puppy. This little fella just grabbed my heart. He would take his paw and reach out to me. I played with him for a bit. I told him he was lucky I flew out because if I had driven that year he would be coming home with me.
It seemed like no matter where I was that weekend I kept running into this little guy. He was a 5 and ½ months old Blue Merle Cocker Spaniel. He was staying with a foster family. They had named him Blue because the hosting shelter, Border Trails, had named him Jaguar after obtaining him from another shelter that had named him Cadillac. The poor guy was 5 months old and already had 3 different names! He is visual impaired, but that doesn’t stop him.
Well needless to say, Blue was my carry on the plane on my return home. He has brought so much joy to me and my family, He became the salon mascot of the salon where I was working at the time. Not only did I resuue him, but he also rescued me.”
