Mikayla and Benji at the park and Benji now smiling and happy!
The Paws in the Park event had all four of their shelter/rescues represented and had pets available for adoption. This young girl, Mikayla, was checking out all the puppies and dogs when she spotted this adorable, smiling scruffy looking pup from the Drews Crew Wild at Heart Animal Rescue display. She instantly knew this was the one. She was determined not to leave the park without Benji. Mikayla stated “I picked Benji because he is so cute and playful and he is perfect. We go on walks everyday and play in our backyard. I have already taught him how to sit and will teach him to roll over and other tricks. I picked him because out of all the dogs there he loved me the most, I love him so much.” Benji now loves walking around the neighborhood and receiving friendly pets from all the kids, playing with Mikayla and chasing the cat. He is a wonderful addition to our family!
This story gets more interesting when Ashley Wagstaff shared this story about Mikayla and how amazingly big hearted she is for such a young person. During one of her birthdays she decided to raise money and collect pet food items instead of her receiving gifts. Her birthday party was an inspiring story and added $850 to further Mon Valley Paws mission. Ashley sponsors the Tino’s Toys during the holidays by collecting and donating pet toys for the shelter/rescues. This year Mikayla will be assisting in the collection and will absolutely be joining as a Mon Valley Paws volunteer. We are so proud of her and her accomplishments.
